Lil' Picasso March 2025: Celebrating Women in Art: Preschool Projects Inspired by Female Artists This March!

Dear Parents,

This March, our Lil' Picasso's will be celebrating Women’s History Month by exploring projects inspired by four extraordinary female artists! Students will dive into the creativity of Veronika Richterova, Helen Frankenthaler, Beatrix Potter, and Mary Cassatt. These inspiring artists will show young learners how imagination and art can come together in wonderful, creative ways.

Artist Highlights and Projects for March

  • Veronika Richterova: Known for her innovative art made from recycled plastic bottles, Richterova transforms everyday materials into delightful sculptures.

  • Helen Frankenthaler: A pioneer of abstract expressionism, Frankenthaler used bold colors and unique techniques, including a style called "soak-stain" painting.

  • Beatrix Potter: Best known for her beloved illustrations in The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Potter combined storytelling with charming watercolors.

  • Mary CassattAn American Impressionist painter celebrated for her paintings of women and children, often focusing on themes of motherhood and the female experience.

Expanded Learning

During March, there will be many ways you can expand your child's learning on influential women artists. Here are a few ideas to look into (and check Fibo's Facebook page for more updated ideas):

  1. Bowers Museum in Santa Ana is likely to host events aligned with Women's History Month, focusing on historical and cultural exhibitions. While specific details for March 2025 aren’t available yet, Bowers has previously highlighted exhibitions celebrating women’s contributions.

  2. Orange County Public Libraries will feature events and reading programs for Women's History Month, often including activities geared toward children. In past years, they have offered story sessions and hands-on projects that can help young students engage creatively with historical figures and themes relevant to women’s contributions across various fields.
