Lil' Picasso June 2025: Discovering Dutch Masters
Dear Parents,
This June, Lil' Picasso students will embark on an artistic journey through Dutch art history, creating projects inspired by four legendary artists: Johannes Vermeer, Vincent van Gogh, Jan van Eyck and Piet Mondrian. Each artist brings a unique style, from detailed realism to expressive brushwork and bold abstractions. Through these projects, children will discover the richness of Dutch art.
Meet the Artists
-
Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675)
A master of the Baroque period, Vermeer is celebrated for his use of light, color, and exquisite detail in paintings like Girl with a Pearl Earring and The Milkmaid. -
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890)
Known for his dynamic brushwork and vibrant color, Van Gogh’s art is full of movement and emotion. His famous works like Starry Night and Sunflowers are adored worldwide. -
Jan van Eyck (c. 1390–1441) - Madonna Style
Jan van Eyck, a Flemish artist of the Northern Renaissance, is known for his incredibly detailed portraits and religious art, including the Madonna series. His precise technique and ability to create realistic textures make his works memorable. -
Piet Mondrian (1872–1944)
Mondrian’s iconic abstract compositions, characterized by primary colors and bold lines, are known worldwide. His minimalist, geometric style encourages viewers to see beauty in simplicity.
What Your Child Will Learn
Throughout June, these projects will help your child to:
- Experiment with a variety of styles, from realism to abstraction.
- Appreciate Dutch art’s influence on both historical and modern art.
- Build focus, creativity, and confidence as they bring their own “Dutch-inspired” masterpieces to life.
