Lil' Picasso January 2025: Little Artists, Big Feelings: Exploring Emotions with Art
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! We are excited to share with you some glimpses into what our Lil’ Picasso students will be learning and creating this month. In January, our Lil’ Picasso’s will dive into the captivating world of Romanticism. Romanticism began in the late 18th century and went through the mid 19th century. Romanticism is characterized as a reaction against Neoclassicism. Neoclassicism was a revival of classical art and culture from ancient Greece and Rome and focused on reason, rationality and formal compositions. In rejection of Neoclassicism, Romanticism focused instead on EMOTION, NATURE and IMAGINATION! Students will be creating projects inspired by key Romanticism artists, including Caspar David Friedrich, Eugene Delacroix, J.M.W. Turner, Thomas Lawrence and Thomas Gainsborough.
EXPANDED LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Two of the projects this month will be inspired by Thomas Gainsborough's "Blue Boy" and Thomas Lawrence's "Pinkie". Both of these actual paintings are on display in person at The Huntington Library in San Marino: https://huntington.org/. We highly suggest taking your children to see these paintings in "real life", especially AFTER they learn about them in class, so they can start to connect-the-dots of the famous artists they are learning about in class! When you do visit, be sure to take a photo of your child at the museum. One super cute idea is to have your child bring their drawings of the Blue Boy and/or Pinkie and take a photo of them standing in front of the "real thing" holding up their own artwork! When you do, we'd love to see! Tag and mention @fiboart on Instagram!
