We use Mr. Sketch markers at Fibo because the chisel-tip simulates the angle-tipped brushes we use, so the markers act as training wheels for painting.
With that said, we specifically recommend Mr. Sketch markers because they have chisel-tips which allow for both thin and thick lines, they make covering large areas fast and easy, and bonus, they smell really good!
Can you use Crayola's and other inexpensive brands? Of course you can use whatever you want, but at Fibo, they will not achieve the goal we shooting for, so we only recommend Mr. Sketch.
With that said, for more experienced, older students (Jr. High and above), we do recommend Prismacolor chisel-tip markers. These are much more expensive and have a high-fume level, so we do not recommend them for younger kids - but are great once your child expresses a high-interest level in art, however we don't use them in our studios due to the fumes.
