Chalk pastels are not the same thing as oil pastels nor crayons. Crayons are waxy, oil pastels are creamy and chalk pastels are dusty. Fibo studio and online classes use both oil and chalk pastels.
As for brand, this is one medium where we really don't think it makes too much difference. However after much experience with many brands, Fibo recommends Art Alternatives as a brand that offers good pigment at an inexpensive price, perfect for young kids.
