K2 Reading: Famous Female Artists

In the Grades K-2 Reading & Art series, the Teacher reads a book aloud and then the students create a project inspired by the book. In the K-2 Reading: Famous Female Artists course, students will read four biographical children's picture books about famous, female artists, including: Coco Channel, Ruth Asawa, Louise Bourgeois and Helen Frankenthaler.

- Along Came Coco, by Eva Byrne, published in 2019. Learn about the famous fashion designer, Coco Channel.
- Cloth Lullaby, by Amy Novesky, published in 2016. Learn about the famous artists, Louise Bourgeois. Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) was a world-renowned modern artist noted for her sculptures made of wood, steel, stone, and cast rubber. Her most famous sculpture, Maman, stands more than 30 feet high.
- Dancing Through Fields of Color, by Elizabeth Brown, published in 2019. Learn about Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011) who is famous for her poured-paint technique.
- A Life Hand Made, by Andrea D'Aquino, published in 2019. Learn about the famous artists, Ruth Asawa (1926-2013). Asawa was an American sculptor most famous for her style of weaving organic forms with wire.
