K-2 Reading: New Books

In the Grades K-2 Reading & Art series, the Teacher reads a book aloud and then the students create a project inspired by the book. In the K-2 Reading: New Books course, students will read four books written in 2018 and 2019, including: All Are Welcome, Alma and how she got her name, Hey, Water! and Skulls.

Course Designed For: PK-1st Grade (younger students may need assistance)

  • All Are Welcome, by Alexandra Penfold, published in 2018. This is a #1 New York Times bestselling picture book, celebrating diversity and inclusivity.
  • Alma and How She Got Her Name, by Juana Martinez-Neal, published in 2018. This book is about a little girl who thinks she has too many names and so she asks her dad what each of her names means.
  • Hey, Water!, by Antoinette Portis, published in 2019. In this book, follow a little girl as she discovers all the places that water is available.
  • Skulls!, by Margaret Wise Brown, published in 2019. This is a book that teaches children about the purpose of our skulls and how everyone has one. It teaches them to not be afraid of skulls,  but to be proud of them.
