Course Description: In this course, students will learn about Art History from the Renaissance period.

Course Designed For: 2nd - 6th Grade (younger students may need assistance)

PROJECT 1: LATE GOTHIC ART *Recording Only

Project Description: In this class, students learn about Cimabue, Giotto and Duccio. They will create a project inspired by Giotto's Lamentation painting.

Supplies: Pencil, sharpie, eraser, watercolors, colored pencils, watercolor paper.

PROJECT 2: EARLY RENAISSANCE ART *Recording Only

Project Description: In this class, students learn that the Early Renaissance started when Late Gothic artists stated to break from the Byzantine style of flat figures and gold backgrounds and returned to classical ideals and modeled figures. Students will create a picture inspired by Mategna's use of spacial foreshortening.

Supplies: Pencil, sharpie, eraser, watercolors, colored pencils, watercolor paper.

 

PROJECT 3: HIGH RENAISSANCE ART *Recording Only

Project Description: In this class, students learn about the Italian High Renaissance and its' most famous artists, DaVinci, Michelangelo and Raphael. They will create a project inspired by the Mona Lisa.

Supplies: Pencil, sharpie, eraser, watercolors, watercolor paper, colored pencils.

PROJECT 4: VENETIAN RENAISSANCE *Recording Only

Project Description: In this class, students learn about Renaissance that occurred in Venice Italy, where artists were interested in the play of light on nature, color and brush strokes and that the Venetian's are credited with making oil paints popular. Students will create a picture inspired by Titian.

Supplies: Pencil, sharpie, eraser, markers, sharpie, oil pastels, white paper.

PROJECT 5: FLEMISH ART *LIVE Class + Recording

Project Description: In this class, students learn about Flemish Art, which is all art painted in Flanders (Netherlands, France and Belgium) during the early 15th century based on illuminated manuscripts and the Burgundian court.  Students will then create a project inspired by the Flemish painting, Arnolfini Portrait.

Supplies: Pencil, sharpie, eraser, white paper, colored paper, black paper, chalk pastels, colored pencils, scissors, glue

PROJECT 6: MANNERIST ART *LIVE Class + Recording

Project Description: In this class, students learn how Mannerism was a reaction against Renaissance and how the two styles differed. They will then draw a portrait in the elongated and asymmetrical style of the Mannerists.

Supplies: Pencil, sharpie, eraser, markers, sharpie, chalk pastels, colored pencils

PROJECT 7: BAROQUE ART *LIVE Class + Recording

Project Description: In this class, students learn about the highly decorative and elaborate style of Baroque and then create a still life drawing using strong contrast.
